I’m a bit under the weather today, but I do want to share this video. This fall is the first in five years that I have been living where leaves turn, the air crispens, and the days grow shorter, inviting one to sit by the fire with a dog on one’s feet and a quilt on one’s lap.
I find something to like in all the seasons, but I’ve missed fall so much, it is my favorite right now. What season do you prefer?
I am the youngest of four children, raised in the old-fashioned Irish-American way. I suspect my mother encouraged me to write from an early age to keep me out of her hair, although she may have regretted the decision when my teachers began to call about the controversial stories I was writing. Thus I began my career of butting heads with the good sisters at my Catholic elementary school, and ended it by leaving high school for college with no diploma. I wear my high-school dropout badge rebelliously and proudly.
In college, I became fascinated with the Middle Ages, which was described as a “starry night” by one of my professors. So began a trek through languages and legends that informs my narrative non-fiction and historical fiction, as well as my blogs.
I love feedback and enjoy discussing ideas. I have an accountability blog for the Round of Words in Eighty Days entitled Leavekeeping; I write a blog on literary history, intellectual history, and the history of words entitled Lapidary Prose. I'm on Twitter and Facebook; my email is lapidaryprose@gmail.com.

Hi Elizabeth, What a relaxing video of autumn. Did you shoot all those shots yourself? My favorite season has always been summer, as long as I have the other seasons to balance it out. I also love that twice a year I feel like I get a whole new wardrobe as I bring up the storage boxes I’ve forgotten about.
Lovely song and video, Elizabeth! I love springtime, but there is something really lovely about autumn. It doesn’t hurt that San Francisco usually has its best weather during the fall. 😛
I love all the change of seasons. Winter can get old real quick with me. I like the first snowfall but when the temps are freezing I want to jump to spring. I’d have to say out of all the seasons I like spring the best, if it’s a warm one. I’m not picky at all!
Ha! In Houston, we joke about the one day of Fall. No matter how hot it is, I make believe the seasons have changed right before Halloween. Keep writing.

Elizabeth, that’s how I start these fall days, in front of the fire, dog at my feet, quilt on my lap and a book in hand – thanks for sharing.
